Documentation
AI Visibility Monitor tracks how AI models — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews — see your brand. This page covers what each dashboard page does and how to do common tasks. New to the platform? Start with core concepts.
What the platform tracks
The platform answers three questions about each domain you track:
- Are you discoverable by AI? Site-level diagnostics on schema markup, internal linking, citation-friendly content, entity coverage, and crawler access — collectively the "Readiness" score.
- Does AI mention you when it matters? Daily probes across every major AI model. We send realistic queries ("best CRM for SaaS startups") and parse the responses for your brand.
- Does AI describe you correctly? Brand-alignment scoring against the messaging you tell us is correct, plus sentiment analysis on every mention.
Scans, probes, snapshots
- Scan — the umbrella daily process for one domain. Triggers all the diagnostic tools and AI probes. Period is one calendar day.
- Probe — a single AI-model query. We typically run 47 queries per probe (defaults + your custom ones + auto-generated fanouts).
- ScoreSnapshot — the daily readiness composite. One per domain per day.
- PerformanceSnapshot — one per AI model per day. Stores every query result, mention status, position, sentiment, and competitors mentioned.
Cadence depends on your plan: Free / Lite are weekly; Starter every 3 days; Growth and Agency daily. Force-rescan from any domain page lets you re-run immediately — rate-limited to 1/hour for non-owners.
How scoring works
The composite Readiness score blends 7 sources weighted by importance:
- Visibility, CRO Friction, AI Citation, Entity Gap, Internal Linking — the five external diagnostic tools, each scored 0-100 with their own category breakdowns.
- GEO Audit — 10-signal generative-engine optimisation score (FAQ schema, entity markup, E-E-A-T, structured data, etc.).
- Crawler Access — robots.txt analysis showing which AI crawlers can read your site.
Per-model AI mention rates are computed independently — the platform doesn't roll AI performance into the composite, since they answer different questions. Mention rate is the % of competitive queries (top-N, recommendation, comparison, alternative) where AI named your brand.
Workspaces & roles
Everyone has a Personal workspace by default. Agency-tier users can create additional Team workspaces — useful for agencies managing multiple clients. Each workspace has its own set of domains and members.
Five role tiers:
- Owner — billing, deletion, member management.
- Admin — edit settings, run scans, invite members.
- Analyst — edit prompts and run scans only.
- Member — view + run scans.
- Viewer — strict read-only.
Last-Owner protection refuses any change that would leave a workspace ownerless. Workspaces can be renamed (Owner) and deleted (Owner of Team workspaces only — Personal workspaces can't be deleted).

Overview
Landing page after login. Shows the top-line readiness score for the current domain plus key recent changes. Recommended starting point for a daily check-in.
Prompts
Every query the platform runs against AI models, with per-query mention status, position, sentiment, and competitor names. Filter by query type (top-N, recommendation, comparison, alternative, description) to focus on the queries most likely to send qualified traffic. Click a query to see the full AI response from each model.
Performance
Where you check on AI mentions specifically. Hero metrics: brand mention rate, endorsement rate (% of mentions that are positive), avg position, best position. Below: the Brand sentiment section showing endorsement distribution + top descriptors AI uses about you + per-model breakdown. Then Brand alignment, Competitor leaderboard, Query results, and Coverage by query type.
Products
Per-product / per-service tracking. Each product in your catalog runs 3 dedicated AI queries per scan probing the niche it competes in. Lite/Starter see passive detection only (we look for product names in existing AI responses); Growth gets 5 active product probes; Agency gets 20.
Gaps
Topic-gap clustering. Takes the queries where AI mentioned your competitors but not you, and groups them into 4-8 themes. Each cluster shows the theme, why it matters, example queries verbatim, and which competitors are winning that theme. Strongest single signal for "where to invest content next".
AI Overviews
Tracking for Google's AI-generated answer panels. Mention rate, average position, and best position over time. Inverted-Y trend chart so up = better. Requires a SerpAPI key on the server (admin setup); if missing, this page shows an empty state.
Competitors
Two layers: tracked competitors you add explicitly (each gets full scans + their own dashboard) and auto-detected mentions — names that show up alongside you in AI responses. The Share of Voice leaderboard blends both. Visibility Gap shows where you trail the top competitor.
Citations
The URLs AI cites in its answers. Split into two views: pages on your site that AI cites (where you should keep investing), and external sources AI uses for queries about your category (industry directories, news, blogs — gaps where you might want to be quoted). Citation trends over time help spot which sources rise/fall in AI's preference.
Readiness
The Readiness score breakdown. Composite + per-tool scores, with category-level detail per tool when expanded. The GEO Audit and AI Crawler Access sections live here. Full-width score-trend chart at top. Rule of thumb: anything below 60 is an active improvement target; below 40 is urgent.
Settings
Seven tabs: General (plan, billing, account), Domain (brand profile + tracking config — most-used tab), Notifications (email preferences), API Keys (Growth+), Webhooks (Growth+), Team (Agency, legacy per-user), Workspace (multi-workspace member management). Tabs you don't have access to show as locked with an upgrade card.
Add a domain
- Click the domain switcher in the header → + Add domain.
- Enter the URL, your company name, and category.
- First scan kicks off automatically. Initial data lands within ~10 minutes.
If you hit your plan's domain cap, the dialog shows an upgrade card. Domains are scoped to your current workspace.
Customise tracked prompts
- Settings → Domain → Custom queries.
- Click + Add query to add manually, or use:
- Templates — 10 patterns auto-filled with your category/company name. One click to add.
- Suggest — AI picks 5 prompts based on your competitor-gap data (queries where rivals were mentioned but you weren't).
- Bulk import — paste one query per line; query type auto-detected.
- Test any query before saving — runs against every model in seconds, shows mention status + competitors named per model.
Add a competitor
- Open the Competitors page.
- Top section is Tracked competitors → click + Add competitor.
- Enter their domain (e.g.
bristows.com) and an optional display label. - They get their own scans on the next cron tick and their own dashboard you can view independently.
Tracked competitors count against your plan's competitor limit (Growth: 1, Agency: 5). Auto-detected mentions don't — those just show up in the leaderboard automatically.
Set target brand messaging
- Settings → Domain → Target brand messaging.
- Add 1-10 statements describing how you want AI to talk about you. Use your real brand voice — verbatim from your About page is ideal.
- Each scan's brand-alignment job scores how faithfully AI's descriptions match. Results show on Performance → Brand alignment with matched / missing / distorted breakdowns.
Configure product/service tracking
- Settings → Domain → Product catalog.
- Add up to 20 products/services with name + category each.
- Growth+ runs 3 dedicated AI queries per product (the first 5 / 20 by plan); Lite/Starter use passive detection.
- View results on the Products page.
Invite teammates
- Settings → Workspace → Invite a teammate.
- Enter email, pick a role (Admin / Analyst / Member / Viewer).
- They receive a magic-link invite valid for 7 days.
- Pending invites display in the members list until accepted.
Switch / create a workspace
Workspace switcher dropdown is in the header (left side, next to the domain switcher). Only visible if you belong to multiple workspaces or are on Agency tier (which can create additional workspaces).
Switching reloads the dashboard scoped to that workspace's domains. Domains in other workspaces stay invisible until you switch back. Move a domain between workspaces from Settings → Domain → Workspace.
Force a rescan
Open the Readiness page → click Re-scan now next to the score header. Rate-limited to 1 manual rescan per hour for non-owners. The orchestrator wraps rescan in a transaction so concurrent rescans can't lose data.
Export your data
GET /api/monitor/data-export returns every record we hold for you as JSON. Includes user metadata, all domains, all snapshots, alerts, API keys metadata, webhooks, team memberships, scheduled reports. Rate-limited to 3 per hour. GDPR Article 15 / 20 compliant. For account deletion (Article 17), useDELETE /api/monitor/data-delete — soft-deletes with a 30-day recovery window before permanent purge.
Use the REST API
Growth+ feature. Settings → API Keys to create a key. Keys are mtr_live_* tokens, hashed with SHA-256 at rest. Pass as Authorization: Bearer <key>. Endpoints under /api/v1/ mirror the dashboard (domains list, history, performance, recommendations). Rate-limited per key.
Set up webhooks
Settings → Webhooks (Growth+) → Add an endpoint. Pick events: alert.created, scan.completed, score.changed. Each delivery includes an X-Monitor-Signature header with the HMAC-SHA256 of the payload using your secret. Test deliveries available from the endpoint list. SSRF protection blocks loopback, RFC1918, link-local, AWS metadata, and non-HTTPS URLs.
AI models probed
- OpenAI GPT-5.4 (full)
- Anthropic Claude Haiku 4.5
- Google Gemini 2.5 Flash
- Perplexity Sonar (with citation extraction)
- Google AI Overviews via SerpAPI (opt-in, requires admin setup)
Cost is included — you don't need your own LLM API keys. Probes that hit quota or auth errors are marked as Skipped in the per-model breakdown rather than dragging your average to zero.
Regions
Settings → Domain → Regions. Configure Global plus any of: US, UK, DE, FR, ES, NL, IT, BR, PT. Non-global regions run only cheap models (Gemini Flash) to keep cost predictable. Region filter is in the dashboard header when more than one region is configured.
Authentication
Magic-link sign-in by default — no password. 256-bit single-use token, 15-min expiry, rate-limited 3/5min per IP. Sessions are 30-day cookies, httpOnly, secure, SameSite-lax, scoped to /monitor. Agency-tier customers can configure SAML/OIDC SSO via WorkOS — admin sets up an SsoDomainMapping for the customer's email domain and they get bounced to their identity provider automatically.
